Biography

Amanda realized if she wanted to purse music further she would need to go to a university knowing there were many aspects of music she was not trained in. However, she fell into what most do when going to university for music. Being told by many people that one couldn’t make a career in music if they did not teach, she started on the journey towards a B.M.E in music. After a semester at a private university, Amanda decided to transfer to the University of Central Missouri. There she was welcomed with open arms by her professors and encouraged by them that there are multiple careers in music other than teaching at an institution. Currently, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Music with a minor in Business Administration. She studied voice under Dr. Stella Dayrit Roden.

Meet Amanda

Amanda is a musician and a business woman. Growing up in a small rural community, she was heavily influenced by the sounds of bluegrass and country music. Her main influencers were Ricky Skaggs, Rhonda Vincent, Allison Kraus, and eventually the Steeldrivers. Surrounded by a family who were deeply involved in music, it was no wonder there was a passion for her to pursue music. She delved into taking private piano lessons at the age of five. She took lessons with three local instructors. This satisfied her temporary music fixation, however, not for long. Wanting to play the instrument she kept hearing from artists such as Ricky Skaggs, she started taking mandolin lessons. Her granny bought her a black and blue New York Pro mandolin for Christmas. Not many years after, Amanda took lessons from Matt Wyatt. Before teaching Mr. Wyatt played on the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium, and on “Nashville Nights.”

Senior Voice Recital at UCM

In the fall of 2016, Amanda and her two siblings decided to develop an actual band. For years they had jammed together but they wanted to make it more. They developed the group called The Three G’s. She says between the three of them they play the guitar, mandolin, upright bass, banjo, piano, fiddle, and Cajon. Their sound is a mix of paying homage to the traditional bluegrass while yet including their own flavor from contemporary music of today. Their biggest performances have been their annual Christmas concerts at Greenton Baptist Church. They have gone from only a handful of people attending to over one hundred people attending their concerts. They have performed at the Odessa Nursing home, Wellington-Napoleon Kid’s First Education Scholarship fundraiser, Ebenezer United Church of Christ, and several weddings. They are in the works of recording a Christmas album and an original songs album. Amanda and her family wrote a song for the flooding of 2019 that happened right in her home town, called “In Charge of the Storm” to help with the recovery of a local church.

With a passion to create, inspire, and mentor Amanda is focused on taking The Three G’s to more churches and communities. She wants to inspire younger generations that the arts are important and to keep creating no matter what. She believes and lives by the quote Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said “A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.”
